  The tide pools are a hidden gem that I never knew about until recently even though I grew up in San Diego. Be aware that there is a fee to get into the park that is shared with the Cabrillo Monument. Plan a day to visit everything, including Fort Rosecrans.
  If possible, try to coordinate your trip to the tidepools for low tide. There is so much more to be seen and you can actually walk out pretty far. Sandals or water shoes are recommended.
  Parking can be a little tricky. If the first lot is full try driving further down the road as there are small parking lots with benches and great views. A short 10-15 minute hike will get you down to the pools.
  Holidays and the summer are pretty tough for parking in general.
