  If you had asked me during my tenancy whether I would recommend Jean and SD City Homes, I would have said, "Yes." Jean is pleasant enough in person, and most repairs were performed in a timely manner. Some repairs were merely patch-jobs whose full work was to be post-poned until later in the year (after we were to have moved out), so we are not certain they were ever completed.
  
  The house itself was run-down, but acceptable, especially for the modest price point.
  
  Sadly, after having moved out, we were sent a letter declaring that we owed an substantial amount over and above our security deposit. The letter detailed expenses including a $700 cleaning bill (about 7 times the cost we were estimated for cleaning), and charges to completely repaint and re-carpet the entire house (despite the paint and carpet both not being new when we moved in). Considering the fact that we had neither damaged nor repainted the walls or carpet, the fact that no receipts were provided to corroborate the seemingly outlandish expenses, and the fact that the declaration was a week after the 21-day limit stipulated by California Law, we were left with the feeling that either the owner of the property or SD City Homes were attempting to pull a fast one on us in order to keep all of our deposit (and possibly shake us down for more money).
  
  We sadly cannot, therefore, recommend SD City Homes to anyone at this time, as they appear to be either a shady outfit or they represent shady landlords (or both).
